The Sixers fended off the struggling Bobcats, 98-89, Monday in Charlotte to bring Paul Silas's squad's losing streak to a whopping 15 games (see story.)
The Sixers' next three opponents were all in action. Here's a quick look around the association.
LeBron's revenge
The Heat finally found a taste of revenge in Milwaukee against the middling Bucks, who had beaten them in both season meetings prior to Monday.
LeBron James, unwilling to fall to a 11-16 foe yet again, shot a gaudy 16 for 21 for 35 points in Miami’s 114-96 win (see full recap). Dwyane Wade added 22 on 14 shots and Mario Chalmers and Mike Miller were each 3 for 4 from three.
Miami (22-7) has won three in a row to tie Chicago in the loss column atop the Eastern Conference.
In one of the stranger stat lines you’ll see, Milwaukee’s Drew Gooden was 2 for 14 from the field and a perfect 8 for 8 from the foul line.
Magic dust off T'Wolves
Up next on the Sixers’ schedule is the Orlando Magic, which defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 102-89, Monday at Amway Center. (See full recap.) Dwight Howard (11 points, seven boards) had a rare single-digit rebound effort, only his sixth such game of the season.
In a Sixers-like scoring effort, six Magic players had 11 or more points, including all five starters and J.J. Redick off the bench.
Kevin Love gave the T’Wolves 19 points and 15 rebounds, but Minnesota shot just 6 for 21 from three and doubled Orlando up in turnovers, 18 to 9.
The Sixers will be in Orlando Wednesday and Minnesota on Sunday, so advance scouts likely killed two birds with one stone.
Mavs survive against Butler, Clips
Down 94-92 with nine seconds to play, Chris Paul stole a Jason Kidd pass and dished to Caron Butler, who missed a potential game-winning three as the clock ticked down. St. Joe’s product Delonte West made two free throws for the Mavericks to seal a 96-92 win over the Clippers and extend Dallas’s winning streak to four games. (See full recap.)
The Sixers play the healthy and surging Mavs Friday at home in yet another test against a formidable foe. Dallas (18-11) used a balanced scoring attack to top Vinny Del Negro’s Clippers, with seven Mavs scoring nine or more points. Dirk Nowitzki led the way with 22 points but shot 5 for 15 from the field.
Reggie Evans continues to be a non-scoring pest off the bench. He had nine rebounds and three assists in 16 minutes without attempting a field goal. Kenyon Martin gave the Clips 10 points and four blocks off the bench.
